Sheffield Wednesday striker open to loan move

Sheffield Wednesday striker Sam Winnall is looking to leave the club on loan, according to the Daily Mail. The player is said to have grown frustrated at his lack of starts since making the move from local rivals Barnsley in the January transfer window.

It remains to be seen where Winnall will indeed be playing his football following 11pm this evening. Nevertheless, he will surely have plenty of suitors should he indeed wish to move on. He is proven at Championship level following his goalscoring exploits with Barnsley, and he has largely never disappointed whenever Carlos Carvalhal has given him an opportunity.

In 11 starts for the Owls, he has returned four goals. It is mainly because of the strong competition in the current squad why he has found it hard to play as much as he’d like. There is Gary Hooper, Steven Fletcher, Fernando Forestieri, Jordan Rhodes, Atdhe Nuhiu and Lucas Joao would could all feasibly play in any of the two striker spots in Carvalhal’s starting eleven.

With news that 26-year-old Winnall is open to a temporary move away from Hillsborough, it will get alarm bells ringing for all Championship clubs. Perhaps clubs lower down the table would be interested in a deal as they look to boost their squad with a proven goalscorer. Time will tell where he will be playing but no doubt his agent will be making plenty of calls in the coming hours, but time is not his friend as the window slams shut at 11pm, and not a minute later!
