Nottingham Forest wave goodbye to £18,000-a-week flop

Nottingham Forest have today confirmed that right winger Lica has left the club following the termination of his contract. He has been playing and training with the Under-23 in recent times, after growing out of favour at the club following the departure of Frenchman Philippe Montanier.

The last time that the Portuguese forward played in the famous jersey of the two-time European Cup winners the January 2017 0-0 away draw at Birmingham City in the Sky Bet Championship. He would then be shipped away on loan to Primeira Liga Estoril, who are a club which are surely in the running to snap him up permanently. Lica failed to score during his brief spell at the club.

A brief statement earlier today was released on the official club website to reveal the news which in truth won’t entirely upset or disappoint too many City Ground supporters.

“Nottingham Forest can confirm that the club and midfielder Lica agreed to the mutual termination of his contract.

“The club would like to thank for his time at Nottingham Forest and wish him well for the future.”

He becomes the latest name to leave the club from the Montanier era. Finnish international Thomas Lam departed yesterday, albeit on loan, when signing up for Eredivisie side FC Twente.

The 28-year-old was supposedly receiving £18,000-a-week with Forest, and those funds can now be freed up for Mark Warburton to potentially use prior to the transfer window closing at 11pm. It is understood the former Brentford and Rangers manager is keen on adding a goalkeeper to his ranks, with many names linked over the last few months.
