Leeds reportedly interested in Montpellier defender

Sky Bet Championship side Leeds United are interested in signing Montpellier defender William Remy, according to a report from French outlet L’Equipe.

It has been no secret during the start of this window that Leeds were in desperate need of a centre back, with Kyle Bartley returning to parent club Swansea City, and Jansson having a ban which meant he missed the first two games of the season.

However the situation improved quickly, as Jansson returned after serving his ban, and Liam Cooper found real form, as well as Pennington impressing on his début in the opening game away at Bolton Wanderers before being substituted off with an ankle injury, and youngster Conor Shaughnessy impressing when called upon.

Attention switched from a centre-back to a centre-forward for Leeds United, with the departure of Chris Wood, and both Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Pawel Cibiki have signed for the Yorkshire giants.

However reports in France are suggesting that Leeds are not done there, and have switched their attention back on a defender, with Montpellier defender William Remy the rumoured target.

The 26-year-old started his career at the youth set up at French side Lens, before making the step up to the first team in 2008, making 35 appearances for the club, scoring two goals.

Since then the former French youth international has played at the likes of Dijon before signing for Montpellier in 2015, where he has made 45 appearances.

Leeds play Burton Albion at home on Saturday 9 September after the international break, and will look to try to get this deal over the line so that the defender may feature, as they try to maintain their title of the only unbeaten EFL side left during the 17/18 campaign in all competitions.
