Leeds fans react to the signing of Hamburg forward on loan

Championship side Leeds United have announced the season-long loan signing of 25-year-old Hamburg forward, Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

The deal has been in the pipeline for some time as the Yorkshire side prepare for life after Chris Wood, following the New Zealand international’s move to Premier League side Burnley last week. Former German U21 Lasogga has spent his entire career to date playing in Germany with Hertha Berlin and Hamburg on his CV after leaving Bayern Leverkusen in 2010 having failed to make the grade at the five times Bundesliga runners-up.

The 6ft 2in man scored a respectable 22 goals over four years at Hertha as he was limited to just 64 appearances and top scored for his side in the 2012/13 season, with eight goals. In 2013 he joined Hamburg on loan and went on to fire 13 goals in 20 league appearances, including the vital goal to keep his side in the Bundesliga relegation play-off with Greuther Furth.

He signed permanently that summer and would go on to score 26 times in 96 appearances, although he only scored twice in 22 appearances during the 2016/17 campaign.

A loan move for Lassoga could prove to be smart with his rumoured £56k-a-week wages a potential burden if Leeds were to splash out and the former Schalke academy man not impressing at Elland Road.
