Leeds United still in the mix to sign Premier League striker

A deal taking Burnley forward Ashley Barnes is not completely out of sight for Leeds United, according to a number of reports. The bookies still have Elland Road as a possible destination for Barnes.

Since star striker Chris Wood left for Burnley, some Leeds fans have been calling for striker Ashley Barnes to come the other way. The forward has already lit up the Championship in his career, during his spell at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Leeds appeared likely to sign attacking duo Pawel Cibikci and Pierre-Michel Lasogga. However, there has been a mystery shake-up with the proposed loan deal taking Lasogga to Elland Road for the season from German side SV Hamburg.

Hamburg’s official twitter had tweeted earlier this week confirming that Lasogga was joining the Whites on a season-long loan. But this tweet has since been deleted, causing people to ask whether the deal is actually going to go ahead or not.

If the deal falls through, Leeds may step up their interest in Ashley Barnes, who has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Chris Wood.

There have been reports today that Burnley have agreed a deal with Huddersfield Town to take striker Nahki Wells to Turf Moor, making Barnes become even more out of favour.  The signing of Wells, who is yet to feature for Huddersfield in the Premier League, could lead to the exit door being fully opened to Barnes.

Currently Wolves are favourites to land the 27-year-old, with transfer funds most certainly not an issue for them. But Leeds are still 10/1 to land his signature, not far from Wolves’ 8/1. Should Nahki Wells finalise his move to Turf Moor quickly, these odds are very likely to be shortened.
