Leeds United transfer target unsure Whites move is right move

Leeds have been linked with the ‘surplus to requirements’ SV Hamburg forward for the last week-or-so, with reports of him apparently being seen in Leeds as discussions continued on a supposed loan-to-buy option.

However, yesterday Hamburger Morgen Post (HMP) puts some doubt into the truth of this move – the doubt mainly coming the way of Lasogga himself. According to the HMP the chase for Lasogga is drawing to a close but “does not lead to a happy ending [for Leeds United].”

HMP go on to say that Lasogga is hesitant to commit to leaving Germany and taking up a place in England second-tier competition in the Sky Bet Championship. They say that things playing on his mind are leading to him being hesitant on the move, and that he “tends rather to cancel the Whites.

This pulling out of any potential deal is mainly, say HMP, down to one issue – he’s not willing to arrive as a squad member only. Admitting that Lasogga is “ready for a change“, HMP go on to say that the forward “would like to have a good chance to be used quickly and often with his new club.” He is not fully ready to pull out of a new deal to see him loaned to Leeds before a potential sale, saying that he would like to explore the option and make a visit to the club before finally deciding.

Lasogga has top league experience in Germany to his name, something that many see as bypassing the ‘Championship experience’ criteria that fans tend to apply to potential transfer targets. Since the 2012/13 season, Lasogga had only played in the 1.Bundesliga competition. He has featured in 108 games predominantly for SV Hamburg. He has also featured in the 1.Bundesliga competition for former club Hertha Berlin – appearing 32 times.

Lasogga has the ability to put together goal-scoring seasons. Despite a poor return last time out, what with two-in-22, Lasogga does have the ability to put the ball in the back of the net. Evidence for this can be found from his 2013/14 returns of 14 goals across 25 games in all competitions for SV Hamburg during his loan spell from Hertha Berlin – this included 13 in 20 1.Bundesliga games.

Aside from the hesitancy to wanting to play second fiddle to Chris Wood, and to wanting games often and quickly at Elland Road, there are said other obstacles to the move. Chief amongst these is the issue of Lasogga’s wage demands.

At SV Hamburg, he is on what HMP call a “stately sum” of around €3.5 million – a figure that equates to £61,200-per-week. This would place him well above any top earner at Elland Road, meaning that some deal would need to be done to make any transfer to the club a successful one.
