Leeds United fans react to Wood’s disallowed ‘goal’ – “Christmas closer to being offside”

Goals cancelled out for ‘offside’ are unfortunately in the news this past week, what after the disgraceful scenes up at the Riverside at the weekend.

A last gasp equaliser for Sheffield United was cancelled out by the assistant referee’s flag, leading to a narrow 1-0 Middlesbrough win and ugly scenes in the ground and out in the car parks afterwards.

Whilst still a cancelled-out goal, the one tonight (below) against Fulham denying Chris Wood his second of the season did not, thankfully, end with such scenes.

Wood seems to definitely hold his run until the lofted ball is played in by the impressive Samu Saiz. Wood controls the ball on his chest before steering a volley past Fulham keeper David Button. The ball in by Saiz, and subsequent control by Wood, was all to no avail after the flag went up quite early.

Instantly on Twitter, always the barometer of reaction, the general consensus from Leeds fans was that Wood was onside and that the goal should have stood.

And for the final comment from a disgruntled Leeds United fan, an absolute peach of pointed humour.
