Sheffield Wednesday set to make £1.5m bid for Brentford defender

Sheffield Wednesday are set to make an £1.5m offer for Brentford’s Harlee Dean according to a report from the Page 58 of the August 10th print edition of the Daily Mirror.

The Owls have been keen to sign new centre-backs all summer but have failed in every attempt to do so. They looked to sign Sean Morrison from Cardiff City but he ended up signing a new contract with the Bluebirds while a move to sign Johan Djourou fell through last weekend and instead he headed to Turkey to sign for Antalyspor.

But now Wednesday are moving on to another target that they will be confident of signing. They are now set to make an offer worth £1.5m to sign Dean, a player who looks likely to leave Brentford. He only has a year left on his current contract and has been delaying talks for a new one, leading to reports he wants to leave the club. Brentford have even responded to these reports and have stripped Dean of the club captaincy, handing the armband to Nico Yennaris for Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup match against AFC Wimbledon.

For Wednesday it seems like they will be able to take advantage of this situation and finally get themselves the centre-back they’ve been wanting since the end of last season. Dean would certainly fit well into their side after playing very well for Brentford since signing for them from Southampton back in 2012, even winning the Player of the Season award last season as the Bees reached 10th place in the Sky Bet Championship.
