Swindon set to sign Wigan striker

According to BBC Wiltshire Kaiyne Woolery is set to sign for Swindon for £350,000. The 22-year-old scored two goals in the National League play-off final last season as Forest Green Rovers won promotion.

Woolery was linked with a move back to Forest Green, and it was being reported that he would sign for a club record fee. However, this now looks unlikely as it would seem like he is joining Swindon. He was linked with both clubs on loan, but it looks like Swindon want to tie him up permanently.

But the move could depend on Aden Flint. Swindon have a sell on fee for the Bristol City defender and, if he signs for Leeds as he’s rumoured to do so, the money Town get should pay for Woolery.

Town have already signed Chris Robertson, James Dunne, Amine Linganzi, Paul Mullin, Kyle Knoyle, Ben Purkiss, Harry Smith, Olly Lancashire, Donal McDermott and Chris Hussey. It looks like the former Bolton striker is going to be Swindon’s eleventh signing of the summer.

David Flitcroft stated that he was looking to bring in another striker, and it is likely that Woolery is the striker that Flitcroft has been trying to sign for some time.

Woolery started his career with Maidstone United. He signed for Tamworth in 2013, and he scored a single goal in eighteen appearances. In 2014 Championship side Bolton signed Woolery for £10,000 and was loaned out to Notts County in January 2015. However, he failed to score in five appearances for The Magpies.

On Deadline Day in 2016, The Hackney-born striker signed for Wigan. He made his debut against Derby as the Rams beat Wigan 1-0. Woolery was loaned out to Forest Green Rovers last season, and he scored four goals including two in the National League playoff final.

Swindon won 2-1 away at Carlisle on Saturday, and they face Norwich in the Carabao Cup tomorrow. Will Woolery be the player that carries Swindon to promotion?
