Manchester United starlet chose Leeds United over European giants

Manchester United defender Cameron Borthwich-Jackson has completed a season-long loan move to Leeds United but turned down a move to Ajax in order to do so, according to the Daily Star.

The talented left-back completed a medical last week and it was announced earlier this morning that the young defender had finalised a loan move to Elland Road.

Reports from ESPN state that Ajax had held discussions with Manchester United in an attempt to bring Borthwich-Jackson to the Netherlands, however the full-back is now looking to revitalise his chances following a disappointing loan move to Wolves last term by staying in England.

The defender managed to make just six appearances for Wolves in the Championship last season and by the end of the season he was regularly featuring for United’s under-23 side.

Having been left out of United’s tour of USA this summer by Jose Mourinho, instead travelling with the United youngsters to Austria, it appears that first-team chances at Old Traffor may be limited and therefore the defender is after a move to gain regular football.

Borthwich-Jackson first broke into the Red Devils’ first team under Louis van Gaal, going on to make 14 appearances during the 2015-16 season. The England under-20 international then signed a long-term contract in 2016 that tied his services to the club until at least 2020, but now becomes the fifth United player to depart on-loan this summer.

Goalkeepers Sam Johnstone and Dean Henderson have signed for Aston Villa and Shrewsbury Town respectively, defender Regan Poole has gone to Northampton while Devonte Redmond will play for Scunthorpe United this season.
