Norwich City snap up Bochum midfielder

Norwich City have signed Marco Stiepermann from Vfl Bochum for an undisclosed fee as confirmed by the club website.

The Canaries kicked off their season yesterday and they were able to get a draw with likely promotion contenders Fulham with a late goal from Nelson Oliveira cancelling out a Russell Martin own goal. But if they want to challenge for promotion like they want, they know they need to strengthen their squad even. And they have gone back to Germany to sign yet another native from the country in order to improve the team further.

Joining the increasing German contingent at Norwich is Stiepermann, a 26-year-old midfielder that is moving from Bochum. He came through the Borussia Dortmund academy and would even make a few appearances for their first team before moving onto teams such as Energie Cottbus and Greuther Fürth. Now though he will get a crack at playing in the EFL and trying to get Norwich towards the top end of the Sky Bet Championship.

Following his move to Norwich, Stiepermann said: “I’m very happy to be joining a traditional club in England.”

“I’ve seen the city here and it’s very nice. I didn’t need a long time to think about it because I’ve known about Norwich City for a long time.”

“It’s good for me to play here. I know Marcel (Franke) and Mario Vrančić and we spoke about the club, which was good.”

His new head coach Daniel Farke added: “Marco is an all-rounder and a creative guy.”

“He started his career as a number ten but the last season played as a holding midfielder and in the left full-back position a lot. He will give us many options and is at a good age so that will help us to be more flexible.”
