Former Leeds United and QPR midfielder linked with Jambos vacancy

Former Leeds United and Queens Park Rangers midfielder Shaun Derry is being linked with the managerial vacancy at Scottish Premiership club Hearts according to the Daily Record.

The 39-year-old former tough tackler is currently manager of Sky Bet League Two club Cambridge United where he has won an impressive 42.5% of his matches in charge.

Scottish Premiership club Hearts are looking for a new manager after sacking former boss Ian Cathro on Tuesday following a poor run of results and it is believed that Nottingham born Derry is one of the potential replacements for the former Valencia and Newcastle United assistant manager at Tynecastle.

Hearts’ overall form in 2017 has been exceptionally poor and there are worries amongst fans that the club could be relegated from the Scottish top flight should the rot not be stopped. Cambridge United boss Derry is no stranger to struggles after being involved in many battles as a player while he has turned around The U’s’ form during his spell in charge at the Abbey Stadium.

The former midfielder enjoyed a long playing career which saw him play most of his football in the top two tiers of the English game. Derry featured for a number of clubs including Sheffield United, Crystal Palace (twice), Leeds United and Queens Park Rangers. He won promotion to the English Premier League during spells with Palace and QPR.
