Leeds United: 5 things pre-season taught us – looking forward

For once, it seems to Leeds United fans that they’ve had a pre-season that has been both worthwhile and informative. Long gone are the days when it was shirts-vs-bibs and inter-squad games followed by a dip in the river.

After the usual number of ‘liveners’ against non-league opposition, it was out to Austria and facing top-tier competition in Turkey’s Bursaspor, Germany’s Borussia Monchenglabach and Spain’s SD Eibar.

Whilst losing two of those games in Austria, against Bursaspor and SD Eibar, Leeds did manage an impressive drawn game against Monchengladbach – looking dangerous in a sparkling first half display.

From Austria, and a mini-tour of three games against top-tier competition, it was on to Elland Road and a first chance for fans to see Thomas Christiansen’s new-look Leeds United side at home. The level of competition dropped somewhat from what Leeds faced in Austria as the Whites took on, and defeated, a League One Oxford United side who put up a spirited display.

With the pre-season now a fading memory, and the new Championship campaign a week away, here’s five things that Leeds United fan have learned from this pre-season just gone.

First up is one big problem that Thomas Christiansen has.
