Leeds United look to former Celtic left-back for depth

Moving away from their recent campaigns to bring in Spanish youngsters to stock the Under-23 Development side, it now appears that the latest player trying out for Leeds United is from these shores.

According to the Scottish Sun, and as reported by Radio Yorkshire, former Celtic 20-year-old Aidan Mcilduff is on trial at Elland Road and hoping to earn a deal with the Whites.

Whilst not breaking through to the first team at Celtic, youngster Mcilduff has represented Celtic’s youth tem at the highest level, featuring in their six UEFA Youth League group games against Under-19 counterparts from AC Milan, Ajax and Barcelona.

Whilst Celtic didn’t make it out of the group stages, Mcilduff did play full 90 minutes in each of the young Bhoys’ six group games.

The following season (2014/15) the young left-back saw part of the season out on loan to then Scottish League Two side Clyde, Mcilduff scoring one goal in a 3-0 away win at Montrose.

In 2015/16, it was back to UEFA Youth League action for Celtic Under-19s, providing two assists in games against HJK Helsinki and Puskás FC – with the young Bhoys losing 5-4 AET against Spanish side Valencia.

Now the Scottish Sun say that Mcilduff is to play a second game for Leeds United Under-23s following a run out against Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad last weekend. Now the young Scot will get a second outing for the Whites against Premier League 2 side Southampton Under-23s.

Should he be successful in gaining a deal with the Whites, the young Scot will find himself playing alongside some highly thought of youngsters that Leeds United have brought in from Spain and clubs like Rayo Vallecano and Barcelona to name but two.
