New Fulham man says club’s play style contributed to move

New Fulham midfielder Oliver Norwood has told the Evening Standard that the club’s fluid, attractive style of football helped him choose to make the switch to Craven Cottage.

The 26-year-old joined the West London outfit on a season-long loan deal from Premier League newcomers Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this month.

He spoke of his enthusiasm at joining Slavisa Jokanovic’s squad for the upcoming Championship season and cited the club’s style of play as a deciding factor behind the move.

“I’m just delighted to be here,” he said.

“Having come up against Fulham in the past two seasons, the football they have played suits my style and the way I like to play football.

“Once I knew of the interest, I was desperate to get it done and I am very happy to be here.”

Norwood helped his parent club Brighton to promotion last season, as they secured Premier League status for the first time since the league’s inception in 1992.

However, his playing time at the Seagulls was often limited; he only started 16 matches last campaign, and a move away from the Amex Stadium on loan never seemed out of the question following Brighton’s promotion.

Before moving to the Sussex club in 2016 he developed a reputation for himself as a quality Championship midfielder with Reading.

During his time in Berkshire he made over 80 appearances, and scored four times, including an absolute screamer during a 5-1 rout of Ipswich Town in 2015.

Fulham kick off their 2017/18 Championship season with a tough match at home against fellow promotion hopefuls Norwich City on August 5th.
