Leeds United fans respond to Charlie Taylor valuation of £6-7m

Charlie Taylor was a one-club player up until around this time last year. It was then that he started to look around and see his footballing future at somewhere other than Leeds United.

Taylor had only known Leeds United and Elland Road since signing on for the club as a youngster.

Last season been one blighted with both injury, and criticism from some fans over a perceived lack of interest from the York-born youngster. He started the 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship campaign under somewhat of a cloud, handing in a transfer request after Leeds’ final preseason game against Atalanta at Elland Road.

This request was dismissed out of hand by the club, but it showed more than a hint that Taylor was seeing his future as somewhere else other than Leeds United. Things were compounded by Taylor refusing to play in Leeds’ last game of the season – a ‘dead rubber’ of a match against an already relegated Wigan Athletic.

With teams such as Burnley and West Brom not wanting to risk the lottery that is an independent tribunal to sort out a transfer fee for Taylor, it was left to Burnley to negotiate an eventual fee with the Whites to seal a deal they’d already announced as done. Whilst the actual fee remains ‘undisclosed’, BBC Radio Leeds’ Adam Pope (below) sheds a little possible light on what it may be.

Taylor came to prominence in the Leeds United side after replacing Stephen Warnock as Leeds’ regular left-back after Warnock left Elland Road to join Derby County. Since then the cultured left-back had gone on to make 104 performances for the Whites, scoring three goals and making 13 assists.

Taylor featured in 29 games for Leeds last season, laying on four assists. Garry Monk stuck by his ‘if he’s fit, I’ll pick him’ mantra from the start of the season. His only absences from the first team had been brought about by an Achilles problem and exacerbated by the excellent form of replacement Gaetano Berardi.

The completed sale means that Taylor will join former team-mates Lewis Cook (Bournemouth) and Sam Byram (West Ham) in playing in the Premier League next season.

Leeds United fans respond to news of potential value of Charlie Taylor fee

There’s a definite pattern developing amongst Leeds United fans over where/on who the money should go.

Other fans sway away from the obvious ‘lump it on Bartley’ line and see the benefits it could have on a wider scope.

Final word on the Bartley front goes to the following guy, a guy with a very simple gameplan for next season.

Some fans aren’t even too fussed that he’s moved on.
