Aston Villa join race for Liverpool winger

Aston Villa are interested in signing Liverpool’s Sheyi Ojo, according to the Mirror.

The 20-year-old has been in high demand this summer transfer window after an impressive series of performances for the England U20s team. Ojo only made his professional debut in 2015 in a loan spell at Wigan Athletic, where the winger made 11 Championship appearances, but his talent was showcased during the U20’s trip to South Korea.

The youngster made his Liverpool debut in 2016 after an impressive temporary stint at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Ojo has accumulated 13 appearances for the Reds, including eight Premier League fixtures.

The winger, who is also eligible to play for Nigeria, has represented England at every youth level to date and made his mark in this year’s FIFA U20’s World Cup. Ojo made two assists in the semi-final triumph over Italy and played in final against Venezuela as England won the tournament.

A number of Championship clubs have been fighting for the signature of the Liverpool player, after his current employers granted permission for Ojo to leave the club on a temporary basis. Middlesbrough, Fulham and Derby County have all shown interest in the England U20 international but it is now reported that cash-rich Aston Villa will join the race.

Steve Bruce’s side have already signed one Premier League youngster on loan in Sam Johnstone and have been very active this summer. The West Midlands club have strengthened their defence with the signings of John Terry, Christopher Samba and Ahmed Elmohamady, but the signing of Sheyi Ojo would provide the Championship with a different option out wide as Villa look to make a return to the Premier League.
