Blackburn Rovers sign former Birmingham City defender after successful trial

Blackburn Rovers have signed Paul Caddis on a free transfer after he had a successful trial with the club as confirmed by the club website.

Caddis started last season at Birmingham City where he was hailed as a hero for scoring the goal that saved them from being relegated from the Sky Bet Championship in 2014. However he in the 16/17 season he fell out of favour with then head coach Gianfranco Zola and he would be released in the January transfer window by mutual consent. He would go on to have a short spell with Bury in the second half of the season but found himself becoming a free agent again this summer.

But after a short while training with them, he has signed a two-year deal with Blackburn. The move will see him once again link up with Tony Mowbray who also managed him when they were both at Celtic together. Now they will be looking to get the Lancashire club promoted back to the Championship at the first time of asking following their relegation last season.

After completing his move, Caddis said: “I’m excited,”

“I’m looking forward to this season.”

“I know the manager. I’ve worked with him before. I know his philosophy of football and how he wants to play and I think that suits me, so I’m looking forward to a successful season.

“I was here for a week about four or five months ago, so I got to know the place a bit. I believe I was pretty close to getting a deal, but it dragged on a bit and I was waiting on other things that were out of my hands.

“So it isn’t as new as it would have been if I wasn’t here before. I’m excited, I got on well with the lads and I’m looking forward to a successful season.”
