Hull City make Liverpool midfielder their priority in £8 million deal

Hull City have made Liverpool midfielder Kevin Stewart their next priority signing, according to BBC Sport.

A deal worth as much as £8 million is expected to be completed later this week, with the 23-year old leaving the Reds’ pre-season training camp in Hong Kong to return home and complete the deal.

The news comes as Tigers left-back Andy Robertson is set to join Liverpool after he left the Tigers training camp on Portugal earlier this week. Some media outlets suggest some form of swap deal may be in place.

Stewart, predominantly a defensive midfielder, has made 20 appearances for Liverpool, since signing on a free transfer from Tottenham in 2012. He has since had loan spells at Cheltenham Town, Burton Albion and Swindon Town.

Stewart signed a new contract at Anfield in 2016 keeping him at the club until 2020, but it now appears that he’ll become Leonid Slutsky’s second permanent signing of the transfer window.

Hull City yesterday confirmed the re-signing of Fraizer Campbell on a free transfer after he was released by Crystal Palace. He joins Chelsea defender Ola Aina as the only new additions to the squad so far, as several names have departed the club in recent days including Tom Huddlestone (Derby), Eldin Jakupovic (Leicester), Andy Robertson (Liverpool) and Ahmed Elmohamedy (Aston Villa).

Hull City are also reportedly close to a deal with Liverpool winger Ryan Kent. The 20-year old spent last season on loan at Barnsley where he won the club’s Young Player of the Year award. Liverpool have agreed deals with the Tigers, Leeds United and one other unknown club, and it is ultimately the player’s decision where he plays in 2017/18.
