Blackburn Rovers complete signing of Championship striker

Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of Reading striker Dominic Samuel for an undisclosed fee, as reported on the club’s official website.

Blackburn had been linked with Samuel for a couple of weeks, but fans have been forced to wait until today to see the transfer finally go through.  The 23-year-old striker has signed a three-year deal at Ewood Park, taking him through to 2020.

Samuel is a product of the Reading academy but made only 15 senior appearances for the club after his debut in 2012.  Most of these came in the Championship last season, with the striker scoring twice in 11 games in all competitions.  He then spent the second half of the season on loan at Ipswich Town, failing to score in six appearances.

There will be at least a couple of familiar faces for Samuel at Blackburn, with the striker having played under Rovers boss Tony Mowbray during his time at Coventry City.  Samuel scored six goals in 13 games during this spell, and Mowbray will be hoping that the striker can hit a similar strike rate for Rovers this season.

Samuel has also played with another new Blackburn signing before, having linked up with Bradley Dack at Gillingham.  The striker scored seven goals in  25 appearances which, along with 15 from Dack, almost led Gillingham to the play-offs.

Samuel is Rovers’ fifth signing of the summer so far, following in the footsteps of Peter Whittingham, Richie Smallwood, Bradley Dack and Ben Gladwin.

Blackburn recorded an impressive 8-0 victory over non-league side York City last night, with new signings Dack and Gladwin getting on the scoresheet.
