Norwich Sporting Director has his say on Murphy transfer saga

The Chronicle are reporting that Norwich City Sporting Director Stuart Webber has come out and said that the inevitable transfer of Jacob Murphy to newly promoted Newcastle United will be done on ‘their terms’.

Murphy came up through the youth academy at Carrow Road, alongside twin brother Josh, and made the step up to the first team in 2013.

Since that year the 22-year-old has been loaned out at Swindon Town, Southend United, Blackpool, Scunthorpe United, Colchester United and Coventry City.

He impressed on many of his loan spells, particularly at Coventry City, where he scored 9 goals in 40 appearances, before returning to his parent club last season.

Murphy had a real breakthrough season at Norwich last time out, scoring 9 goals in all competitions for ‘the Canaries’, and also played a huge part of the England under 21 sides success in the recent European Championships, scoring 1, and playing 4 times.

However, it looks like his time at Norwich could be at an end, with a transfer to newly promoted Newcastle United being rumoured for a while, leading Sporting Director Stuart Webber to come out on the Norwich City fan forum last night to talk about the transfer, stating that if it does happen, it will be done on ‘their terms’.

Murphy would no doubt be a fantastic addition to Rafa Benitez’s squad. The winger is blessed with immense pace, making it easy for him to glide past full backs with ease, as well as possessing skill and a great delivery.

Norwich will be looking to replace Murphy quick if he does leave, as they try to challenge for promotion to the Premier League next time out.
