Should Bradford City try to sign this former international centre-back?

With pre-season in full flow, Bradford City have flown off to Austria to begin preparing for the new season ahead. Most of the Bantams transfer business has been done; although they are still yet to sign a new centre-back to fill the void Rory McArdle has left.

Lewin Nyatanga is currently a free agent and would be an exceptional signing for Bradford City.

The 6ft 2in centre-back is only 28 years old and would be a strong addition to the Bantams side.

Nyatanga began his career at Derby County and made 63 appearances for the Rams, scoring on four occasions and during his time at the iPro, he was sent out on loan on four occasions. Nyatanga went to Sunderland on loan where he 11 appearances, before going to Barnsley on three seperate loan spells, making 51 appearances for the Tykes.

Bristol City then signed the defender in 2009 and Nyatanga featured 105 times for the Robins, spending a short time on loan at Peterborough United during his four-year spell at Ashton Gate.

The defender signed for Barnsley in 2013 and made 78 appearances in his fourth spell at Oakwell, scoring seven times.

Most recently, the defender moved to Northampton Town on a season-long loan deal.

Nyatanga made his International debut for Wales at 17 years of age and has picked up 34 caps for his country. His international experience, alongside a career, that he’s primarily spent in the Championship would be useful for Bradford City’s back-line.

The defender is only 28, but also holds plenty of experience that he’s gained in his career so far. Nyatanga would be a fantastic signing for Bradford City and as a free agent, it would make sense to try to bring him to Valley Parade on-the-cheap.
