Bartley, Monk faces Premier League interest to sign ex-Leeds loan star at Middlesbrough

Monk faces Premier League interest to sign ex-Leeds loan star at Middlesbrough

The Sun understands that Premier League duo Crystal Palace and Stoke City are keen on signing Leeds United centre back Kyle Bartley. Middlesbrough are also keen on a deal too, with manager Garry Monk the man who signed him at Elland Road last season.

Leeds were initially interested in the player too, but the change of management and the fact Premier League clubs are in the running has put them off. The 26-year-old has just 12-months remaining on his contract with the Welsh club, but Bartley is still hoping to force his way into Paul Clement’s plans at the Liberty Stadium.

The fact he is proven at Championship level, plus witnessing him first hand day in and day out, is why Monk is particularly keen to snap up the player once again. However they may be behind in the queue for the former Arsenal youngster, although Monk would be able to provide definite regular football. In the case of Stoke and Crystal Palace, whilst they do need to recruit in this position, there may be the fear in the back of Bartley’s mind that he may be on the bench.

AFC Bournemouth tried to snap up the former Rangers man back in January, but they have since added Chelsea defender Nathan Ake on a big-money deal. Clement did initially state that Bartley would not be allowed to leave next season as he was part of his plans. Perhaps that remains the case, although he’ll make some firm decisions over pre-season. With just a year left on his deal, the club need to decide where his future will be.
