Norwich City set to make £3m+ approach for German defender

Norwich City are set to make an approach worth £3.1m to try and sign Union Berlin’s Toni Leistner according to a report from German publication the Berlin Kurier.

The Canaries appointed Daniel Farke as their new head coach at the start of the summer and he has been tasked with getting them back to the Premier League after a disappointing season last time out. And one thing Farke is doing to strengthen his squad is looking back to his native Germany to sign players, a strategy that Huddersfield Town used last season to great success. They’ve already signed Christoph Zimmerman from Borussia Dortmund and Mario Vrancic from SV Darmstadt 98 but now they are looking at another German player.

The latest player they have become interested in and could soon make an approach worth £3.1m soon is Leistner, who is currently contracted to Union Berlin who play in the 2. Bundlesliga. Since signing for the Iron Ones, Leistner has shown himself to be one of the best defenders in the division but while Union Berlin would love to keep him, his contract situation may force a move. He only has one year left on his current and the German capital based club may be forced to sell now if they want to get some money for him.

Norwich will still be forced to pay big though if they want to sign Leistner. Union Berlin are reported to want £3.5m for the 26-year-old defender so while the Canaries initial approach could be just below that at £3.1m, they might have to up just a bit to make sure they sign him.
