Leeds United centre-back signing: Five potential names

3. Jan Kirchhoff

The German defender stands tall at six-foot-five and would be a huge presence in Leeds’ back line if Thomas Christiansen and Victor Orta attempted to bring the centre-back to West Yorkshire.

Kirchhoff is currently a free agent as his contract at newly-relegated Sunderland expired, following their departure from the Premier League. As the Black Cats decided not to offer him fresh terms at The Stadium of Light, the 26-year-old is on the search for a new club and Leeds United would be a good move for the former Bayern Munich man.

Given his height and aerial presence, he could fit in comfortably alongside Pontus Jansson at the back and if called upon, he could feature in central midfield for Leeds.

Kirchhoff has gained experience in both Germany and England’s top divisions and if he was to feature regularly for Leeds in the Championship, he could help to take the club back towards England’s top flight.
