Leeds United may miss out on versatile forward with other clubs interested

Leeds United have still not completed the signing of Lugano forward Ezgjan Alioski and could miss out on signing him, according to Inside Futbol.

Leeds have been linked with signing Alioski for a while now but are still yet to wrap up the deal.  This may have left the door open for other clubs to take advantage, with Swiss side Basel and Germany’s Hertha Berlin also interested in signing the player.  Serie A side Atlanta have also been linked.

Newly-appointed Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen is trying to put together a team capable of trying for promotion once again this campaign after coming close to a play-off place last season.  However, he may have to deal with a couple of losses, too.  The latest player to be linked with a move away is goalkeeper Rob Green, who could move to one of Leeds’ Championship rivals.

Alioski is a very versatile player, being able to play in no less than six different positions.  He began his career as a left-back but was converted into an attacking right-winger at Lugano.  Last season, Alioski scored 17 goals and got 14 assists in all competitions, with most coming whilst playing as right winger or centre forward.  However, he also appeared on both sides of midfield, in the centre of midfield and at left-back at points.

Alioski’s goals helped Lugano to a third place finish in the Swiss Super League last season but the club have reportedly accepted that they will lose their star man this summer.  The forward finished as the league’s third highest goalscorer and also finished in the same position for getting assists.

With several other clubs now interested in the player, Leeds are perhaps not as certain to sign Alioski this summer as some fans thought.
