Leeds United transfer ‘double deal’ from Huesca behind Saiz hold up

According to Spanish channel Aragón TV in their sports programme Aragón Deportes, the hold up in the deal for Samu Saiz could be due to Leeds United actually pursuing a double deal with Huesca.

The Saiz deal, which has been mooted for a while, has seemingly been on hold since the Spanish forward jetted off, at the weekend, to Miami for a holiday.

On Saturday Huesca director José Luis Ortas warned Leeds fans not to be too complacent in assuming that the Saiz deal was done and dusted. He spoke in an interview carried on Spanish site COPE, saying that a “significant offer” (09:32 in interview) has been made for Samu Saiz’s by Leeds before going on to warn “there are also offers from other clubs” (09:43), before saying (09:46) of the transfer: “No, not secure, It isn’t secure.”

Yesterday Phil Hay indicated that one of the main snags was the issue of ‘economic interest’ in Saiz, former club Atletico Madrid said to have a whopping 50% interest in any future transfer fee that Huesca would receive for a forward who scored 12 goals last season.

But Aragón TV’s Deportes report indicated that this might not necessarily be the case, that something else was the reason behind the hold-up. They say that it appears that Saiz will not be arriving at Elland Road alone, that he will be accompanied by another player – the player in question being 45-cap Venezuelan international right-sided player Alex Gonzalez.

In the Aragón TV Deportes video the reporter says (0:33) about the situation that “in addition the central midfielder [Saiz] will not go alone to Leeds. Alexander Gonzalez will accompany him to the English team.”

Further on in the video (06:17), in an extended section, the reporter says “the departure of Samu Saiz draws more close yet he will not go alone. Alexander Gonzalez accompanies the Madrid native to the English second division.”

Whilst Leeds United are looking a bit packed in the middle of the park, the addition of a 24-year-old, 45-cap Venezuelan international won’t go amiss at Elland Road.
