Reading star man to leave this week, according to players’ brother

Speaking to Muscat Daily, the brother of Reading goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi states that the player is set to sign for Al-Hilal. The Oman international is poised to complete a move to the Saudi Arabian Pro League giants this week.

The first choice Reading stopper only signed a contract extension at the Madejski Stadium until 2019 as recently as January. Although his manager, Jaap Stam, followed suit yesterday with his own contract extension, he is now sure to be on the lookout for a new keeper. Al-Habsi is the current Player of the Year with the Royals.

Al-Habsi was an ever-present last season as Reading reached the Championship Play-Off Final, only to be denied by Huddersfield Town on penalties. His brother, Ahmed, has revealed that he is primed to leave the club in a matter of days,

“It is a new challenge and Ali is excited about it. He will soon fly down to Saudi Arabia to sign the deal, which is for two years.

“There is only one technical clarification that Ali has sought from Al-Hilal before signing. Once the Saudi club confirms that he will be part of the Asian Champions League squad, it is all done.

“Both Al-Hilal and Reading clubs have been informed about the deal and it is just a matter of days for Ali to complete the signing.”

This will serve as another big blow to Reading, who have already seen key midfielder Danny Williams depart as well. Stam will therefore be hoping to add some new recruits before the league campaign resumes in one month.
