Championship midfielder denies contact from Brighton and Hove Albion

Burton Albion midfielder Jackson Irvine has denied that he has spoken to Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion despite reports of a £1 million pound bid.

Irvine’s ten goals from midfield last season helped keep Burton in the Championship which has led to interest from a host of clubs. The Seagulls however have appeared as the most keen to add the Australian to their ranks in their debut season in the top flight.

When speaking to SBS, a television network down under, he admitted he was flattered by the reports linking him to the Premier League, but assured fans nothing concrete has occurred yet. He explained that he will continue to do his job until he hears otherwise.

“I’ve obviously read about it, but I don’t believe there’s anything tangible there, I haven’t heard anything anyway, and I think if I haven’t heard anything about it then it’s probably not going to be happening just yet.
Obviously it’s a compliment, though I’m not sure what the source was. In terms of anything real happening at the moment, there’s nothing on the cards in that department.”

The 24 year old spent his youth career moving throughout his homeland, playing for the likes of Melbourne Victory, Richmond SC and Frankston Pines. All of this led to a move to Celtic in 2010, he couldn’t break into the first team here so ended up turning out for Ross County.

At the start of the last season The Brewers reportedly broke their transfer record by splashing out a reported  £330,000 to bring him to the club. He’s keeping his feet on the ground though by not waiting by the phone to see if the Premier League comes calling.
