Sheffield United defender poised to join Swindon?

Chris Hussey has been linked with a move to SN1. Swindon are one of the four reported clubs interested in the 28-year-old.

The Hammersmith-born defender started his career with AFC Wimbledon. He played 70 times for The Dons scoring three goals in the process. The left-back won Young Player of the Year in 2007-08 and 2008-09 campaign. He joined Coventry after a successful loan spell with The Sky Blues. After three years with Coventry Hussey returned to Wimbledon. Then the 28-year-old went to Burton. Once his deal at Albion finished he was snapped up by Bury under current Town boss David Flitcroft. Hussey was then signed by Chris Wilder for Sheffield United. The defender played seven league games in The Blades promotion campaign.

Flitcroft has already signed six players since taking charge. Town are looking to return to League One as soon as possible and if Swindon were able to bring in Hussey on loan it would really be a statement of intent due to the interest in the player. It’s being reported that Portsmouth, Blackpool, and Plymouth are all keen on bringing in the ex-Wimbledon defender.

Chris Hussey’s contract runs out at the end of the 2017-18 season. While he was the first choice left-back at the start of last season he was eventually replaced by Northen Ireland international Daniel Lafferty. It would seem like Hussey isn’t part of Wilder’s plans so if he joined Town on loan Sheffield United would be more than happy to see the back of him when his contract runs out.
