Preston North End meet with Scottish manager linked with job

Preston North End met with former Norwich City manager Alex Neil yesterday as they continue their search for a replacement for Simon Grayson, according to The Mirror.

Late last week, Grayson left Preston to become the new manager of Sunderland after weeks of speculation surrounding his future.  This left Preston looking for a new boss, with the new Championship season starting next month.  Straight away, the club were linked with Scottish manager Alex Neil, but a statement was then released explaining that the club were yet to draw up a shortlist.

However, it is understood that Preston have now met with Neil about becoming their new manager and the club could appoint a new manager as soon as this week.

Neil has been out of work since he left Norwich City in March of this year.  First appointed in January 2015, he won 17 out of his first 25 games and led Norwich to the Premier League via the play-offs.  However, the club came straight back down and failed to hit the same heights in the Championship last season.

With Norwich 8th in the league in March and nine points outside of the play-off places, Neil had his contract terminated.  The manager finished with a win percentage of 41.7%.

Despite being strongly linked with Neil and many expecting him to be appointed sooner rather than later, it is believed that Preston still want to interview other applicants for the job before making a final decision.

Preston begin their season at home to Sheffield Wednesday before making the trip to Leeds United a week later.
