Chris Hussey, Portsmouth, Plymouth and Blackpool interested in Sheffield United defender

Portsmouth, Plymouth and Blackpool interested in Sheffield United defender

A number of League One and League Two clubs are showing interest in Sheffield United’s Chris Hussey, according to HITC Sport.

The 28-year-old was only signed by the Blades last summer, for an undisclosed fee, but quickly became a surplus to requirements in Chris Wilder’s squad. Hussey was a regular starter in the opening games to the season but, after a number of poor performances, the full-back was dropped from the first-team and has made just one appearance in 2017.

As Sheffield United released their retained list in May, it clearly stated that Hussey, alongside Matt Done and James Wilson, was transfer listed by the club and the defender has drawn a lot of interest from a number of clubs. It is reported that the Blades have received several loan enquires as well as interest shown from Blackpool, Portsmouth and Plymouth Argyle.

Another club who are keen on the services of the left-back are newly-relegated League Two club Swindon Town. Manager David Flitcroft worked with the Bladesman during his time at Bury and is a big admirer of the defender.

With a year still remaining on his contract, Hussey will command a fee for any club wanting to advance on their interest, although Sheffield United are keen on selling the defender and may accept a reduced fee.

After releasing Marc McNulty and Stefan Scougall in the summer, Hussey would be the first sale of the summer for the League One champions as the South Yorkshire club look to strengthen their squad for their first season in the Championship for six years.
