John Terry in, but Aston Villa poised to shift another defender to La Liga

The Daily Mail reports that Aston Villa are to sell left back Jordan Amavi to La Liga side Sevilla. An initial bid of just over £5million was rejected, but the Spanish club have returned with a much improved offer to lure the Frenchman to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Sevilla are now under the management of former Celta Vigo boss Eduardo Berizzo after Jorge Sampaoli, who took on the Argentinian national team job. Amavi is set to become one of his first signings at the club, with the 23-year-old desperate for a fresh start after a disappointing stint at Villa Park.

It will serve as some big frustration to the Aston Villa hierarchy that they are to only receive just over £8million for the player. This is as they rejected an offer of at least three times that from a Chinese Super League club a number of months ago. That was revealed by Dr Tony Xia on his Twitter account.

Nevertheless, things simply haven’t worked out since his move from Nice in 2015, although he did initially show some promise. A serious injury of course created big problems for him, but never truly recovered following this. Under Steve Bruce, he was given a run in the side, including a stint in a left winger role, but this was mainly because of injuries elsewhere. John Terry may have joined the club this week and stolen all of the headlines, but another defender is set to head out in the opposite direction. However, not too many Aston Villa fans will be too upset to hear that the full back is to be moving on. He made 44 league appearances for the club.
