Some teams announce signings with a simple tweet, others decide to celebrate the occasion with a gimmick of some sorts. Aston Villa took this to a whole new level with the announcement of John Terry.
The thirty six year old has joined The Villains on a one year deal upon the expiry of his contract with Chelsea. Villa’s twitter took it upon themselves to announce one of their biggest signings in recent years with a WhatsApp group chat involving the chairman, manager, and all the players. It’s easier to watch it rather than try and explain.

It’s unique to say the very least, and Twitter reacted in the way Twitter was always going to react, by absolutely ripping the club for it. The infamous word fans use when a club does something like this was produced many times by fans. “Delete”.

Once you scroll past all of the mickey take tweets and get to the Villa fans, you can see their elation at signing a legend of the game like John Terry. A centre back who has totalled over 700 appearances for Chelsea and 78 for England. He’s lifted many Premier League trophies and Champions Leagues, literally as he captained the Blues to some.

You’d think this season in the West Midlands will be Terry’s swansong campaign before going into retirement, at which point he will be at the age of 37. His last game for the club will be Millwall away, it’s unlikely however he’ll receive a guard of honour this time at The Den.
