Bolton Wanderers winger admits he should have never moved to Sheffield wednesday

Bolton Wanderers’ new signing Will Buckley has told the Sheffield Star that he should have never moved to Sheffield Wednesday last season.

This time last year, Buckley was contracted to Sunderland and had been an outcast at the Stadium of Light for a while. In order to get some first team football, he signed for Sheffield Wednesday on loan, a move that seemed like the perfect fit considering the Owls were in desperate need of new wingers. However the move would not work out for either party as Buckley would only make 11 appearances for the club, though matters weren’t helped by an injury picked up in December.

This meant Buckley didn’t make much of an impact in their promotion bid this season and would end up becoming a free agent this summer after being released by Sunderland. And now that Buckley has a new club after signing with Bolton, he has admitted that going to Wednesday was the wrong move.

He said: “My injury came at a bad time, really, because I had struggled to get a run of games together and, to be honest, I didn’t really fit in with the way the manager wanted to play,”

“Sometimes that happens in football and I don’t feel bitter about it. I wish them well but I’ve got my own challenges at a new club now.”

“I think Sheffield Wednesday was just the wrong move at the wrong time for me. I got a few injuries and just couldn’t get into a really good team. It was frustrating because I felt like I could have contributed more.”
