Dorrans, Sunderland to hijack Rangers move for Norwich City midfielder

Sunderland to hijack Rangers move for Norwich City midfielder

Sunderland are to hijack Rangers’ move for Norwich City’s Graham Dorrans according to a report from the Daily Mail via the Sunderland Echo.

For a while now, it has been expected that Dorrans will sign for Rangers. The Scottish giants have been in negotiations with both the player and club for a while and even when Sheffield Wednesday look to try and sign him for themselves, Rangers were able to head off that interest and remain the favourites to snap him up.

But while the deal is incredibly close to being completed, Rangers now face a big threat to it being done at all as Sunderland are looking hijack the deal and sign the midfielder for themselves. They can now concentrate on getting their squad ready for next season now that they have Simon Grayson as their new head coach and while Dorrans was very close to becoming a Rangers player, they believe they might be able to persuade him to head to the Stadium of Light rather than Ibrox.

Part of the reason that Sunderland have set their eyes on Dorrans is that Grayson wants to sign players who know the Championship and will give them the best chance of getting promoted back to the Premier League at the first time of asking. The Teesside club would have to pay a decent fee for the former West Bromwich Albion midfielder, with Norwich looking for £1.5m for him, though that isn’t expected to be much of a problem as Sunderland should be able to pay that.
