Wolverhampton Wanderers tipped to re-sign former star striker

Sky Bet has made Wolverhampton Wanderers as the 9/4 favourites to re-sign striker Benik Afobe from AFC Bournemouth. This comes in the wake of Eddie Howe snapping up Jermain Defoe from Sunderland on a three-year contract.

With the likes of Callum Wilson, Joshua King and now Defoe on the books at Dean Court, Afobe’s chances of playing as regularly as he’d like have potentially dipped. Since making the £8million move from Wolves, the 24-year-old ten goals for the Cherries, but started just 14 Premier League matches last season.

Since making that move last January, Afobe couldn’t necessarily be described as a regular starter for the Premier League side. He penned a four-and-a-half year deal when leaving Molineux, so it would seem unlikely based on that fact that any move away is likely. He may be seen as a player for the future, he at 24 he needs to be playing now. Perhaps a loan move back to Wolves is a possibility? Should he become available, then countless clubs in the Sky Bet Championship would be very keen on snapping him up given his proven track record.

Prior to Wolves, Afobe came through the ranks at Arsenal, where he failed to earn a regular place in Arsene Wenger’s side. Loan moves to Huddersfield Town, Reading, Bolton Wanderers, Millwall, Sheffield Wednesday and MK Dons followed. It was his goals whilst at Stadium MK which led to Wolves snapping the player up for a reported £2million. His future could very well remain in Bournemouth, and he is priced 1/3 to still be their next season. But the 9/4 price is certainly interesting to say the least.
