Championship side yet to pay player bonuses after promotion last season

The Bolton News understands that Bolton Wanderers players have yet to receive any bonus payments on the back of winning promotion last season. Players received were due to be paid in their monthly salary on Friday, but problems have materialised.

Pre-season training has commenced for the Bolton team, but they have been informed that they won’t receive anything on the back of finishing runners up to Sheffield United just yet. Some players who ended last season out on loan at other clubs haven’t even been paid at all by the Trotters.

Despite a transfer embargo and various off-the-field issues, Bolton secured instant return back into the Sky Bet Championship. Claiming promotion meant a clause in all contracts were issued whereby they would earn a lump sum in extra as a reward. Failure to receive that as of yet is said to have not gone down well amongst the first-team squad. The non-playing staff however have received payment on time as normal.

It is believed that Jamie Proctor’s proposed move to Rotherham United remains on hold until the situation is corrected, whereby he receives the money he is due by the Macron Stadium club. He ended last season away on loan at Carlisle, whilst Chris Taylor ended the campaign with Oldham, meaning neither have received payment. Will Buckley recently signed a contract with the club following his release from Sunderland on a two-year deal. As he was a free agent, there was no real issue with this deal going through despite the clear financial issues around the football club.
