Leeds United told Saiz transfer hopes not assured yet – Huesca director

It is already shaping up to be a season of hope for Leeds United fans, that’s if the pre-season is any measure to go by.

The big news at Elland Road is that Whites fans can now call the stadium they attend in their droves ‘home’; the reason for this being that Andrea Radrizzani shelled out a reported £20 million to give fans their ‘church’ back.

It is also a preseason of transfers with loan-to-permanent deals for Hadi Sacko and Pontus Jansson being signed. These deals run alongside permanent arrivals in youngster Madger Gomes (from Liverpool), Mateusz Klich (from FC Twente Enschede) and now Felix Wiedwald (from Werder Bremen).

There’s still more in the pipeline, with the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Lee Sobot saying on his Twitter that there could be “plenty more” arriving before August.

On of the reputed arrivals is Spanish striker Samu Saiz, who is currently plying his trade over at Huesca in Spain’s La Liga 2, or La Segunda as it is sometimes known. Spanish media outlet Estadio Deportivo (ED) reported last week that the Whites are said to be renewing their interest in former Real Madrid youth striker, and current Huesca forward, Samu Saiz.

ED said that after falling in the promotion places and an aim for a La Liga place, Saiz “is thinking of jumping to another team.” They reported that there are two sides in La Liga looking at him, with Eibar having the lead over Real Betis “having bid the most for the Huesca player.

However, Leeds are also seen as being a team interested in acquiring the former Real Madrid youngster, ED saying last week that new man, and Director of Football, Victor Orta “has thought of Saiz for a team that must fight for promotion.”

Transfer of Saiz to Leeds United “no es seguro”

Despite all of this ‘hoping’, there is still no clear sign that the capture of 12-goal Saiz has moved any closer – not a concrete sign anyway. According to Spanish site COPE, in an interview with José Luis Ortas – Director General of Huesca – it is not all cut and dried between Leeds and Huesca over the Saiz transfer.

Ortas does say that a “significant offer” (09:32 in interview) has been made for Samu Saiz’s by Leeds, something which has already been widely reported.

Ortas says of Leeds’ interest in Saiz “there are also offers from other clubs” (09:43), which causes the interviewer to ask about the status of Saiz’s transfer and whether his ‘transfer’ to Leeds is secured. Ortas replies (09:46): “No, not secure, It isn’t secure.”

Ortas goes on to say (09:57) that following this lack of assured certainty in proceedings: “What follows in a few days, a very few day, comes a week with much talking about the intention of Samu [as to what his decision is].”

Ortas is then pressed by the interviewer about the fee involved, asking him about the ‘€3 million’. The Huesca Director General does say that fees have been discussed (10:16) but that amounts discussed are “between clubs and private

So, despite previous reports that Saiz’s arrival is cut and dried, that seems not to be the case – at least not just yet.
