Hibs poised to complete £250k signing of League Two midfielder

Sky Sports states that Scottish Championship league winners Hibernian are edging closer to the signing of Cambridge United midfielder Luke Berry. Neil Lennon’s side are set to sign the 24-year-old for a fee of £250,000.

Berry came through the ranks at the Abbey Stadium before heading out to a big move to Barnsley in 2014. After struggling to make an impact at Oakwell, he returned to Shaun Derry’s side the following year on a permanent deal. Since then he has made a significant impact and is now set for a move north of the border.

The player is mostly a central midfielder, but is capable of playing in a wider role too. It is this versatility which no doubt has attracted Lennon into making such a move. Hibs are poised to beat clubs in Sky Bet League One who had hoped to snap the player up this summer as well. He netted 22 goals for The U’s last season as they just missed out on a play-off position.

The Ladbrokes Premiership side are now in the process of agreeing personal terms for Berry and make him their latest signing at Easter Road. Derry is now heading into his second full season at the helm, and will undoubtedly be disappointed, but not totally shocked, at losing one of his star talents in the form of Berry. He’ll at least be hoping to use some of the money received to boost his squad ahead of the new campaign. As for Hibs, they look to be getting their hands of a goalscoring midfielder, which is a combination all managers would love to be able to call upon.
