Yiadom, QPR to make offer for Barnsley defender

QPR to make offer for Barnsley defender

QPR are set to make an offer for Barnsley’s Andy Yiadom according to a report from West London Sport.

Barnsley fear that they may lose a lot of their star men this summer after an impressive season where they secured a safe mid-table finish despite being tipped by many to go straight back down to Sky Bet League One. They already know they will be losing Josh Scowen this summer as he has decided to leave at the end of his contract but now there is a battle to keep hold of Yiadom, who has piqued the interest of several clubs including Premier League Swansea City. A recent report suggests that they are set to offer Oliver McBurnie as a make way to sign him.

But QPR are looking to win the race for Yiadom and are set to make an offer to try and test Barnsley’s will to keep him. The Tykes do not want to sell the Ghana international but with his contract set to expire next summer, they might be forced to cash in this summer so they don’t risk losing him on a free transfer next summer. This would rankle Barnsley who had to do the same thing with star man Conor Hourihane in the January transfer window, with his contract situation forcing them to sell him to Aston Villa.

While Yiadom’s good performances for Barnsley helped QPR make their decision to try and sign him, his versatility is also a bonus. Their head coach Ian Holloway is looking to players who can compete at several positions and while Yiadom is best at right-back, he can also play at left-back or as a winger.
