Leeds United set to complete latest transfer by Monday

Leeds United are set to announce the signing of Huesca forward Samu Saiz by Monday at the latest, according to Cadena Cope.

Spanish journalist Jorge Puyuelo, who is believed to be in close quarters with the players, told Spanish radio station, Cadena Cope, that “It will be official by the latest Monday.”

The deal has been in the pipeline for some weeks now, and a £3 million fee is being touted for the 26-year-old who was subject to interest from Spanish La Liga outfit Eibar as well as from the Championship side.

However Newcastle pulled the plug on an £8.7 million deal to sign Eibar’s Florian Lejeune, which meant the Spanish minnows couldn’t afford to realistically challenge Leeds’ offer to the former Getafe striker.

Whilst his goalscoring record isn’t the most impressive, the Spaniard offers a versatile option for Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen, who as already added Mateusz Klich from FC Twente and is hopeful of sealing moves for Ezgjan Alioski and Madger Gomez in the coming days.

Saiz has spent his entire career in Spain, and most of that has been spent with B teams of top La Liga clubs. The versatile frontman started his career out at Real Madrid, but never escaped the B team, and after stints with Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Getafe B teams, he moved on permanently to Huesca.

His 12 goals last season helped Huesca to the Segunda Division play-offs, but unfortunately, his side missed out on promotion to La Liga. Leeds fans will be hoping Saiz can help them reach the same heights next season.
