Leeds closer to completing La Liga striker deal

Sky Bet Championship club Leeds United have moved even closer to completing a deal for Spanish striker Samu Saiz, according to Spanish media reports.

The Yorkshire club have been heavily linked with the former Real Madrid B striker in recent weeks, however recent speculation seem to suggest that the transfer is imminent. While the transfer business is still progressing, the Whites have not fully completed the deal.

The report in Spanish newspaper El Comercio suggests that Leeds United will pay a fee of around €3.5m (£3.1m) for Saiz, a record transfer fee for SD Huesca. However, a term in Saiz’s transfer from Atletico Madrid to Huesca says that half of his sell-on fee will return to the Madrid club.

Saiz made a name for himself last season by netting 12 times for Spanish second-tier side Huesca, helping the Spanish side to a promotion play-off final. However the Spaniard tasted defeat, effectively sealing the end of his tenure in North East Spain.

Saiz with sweet pass

The dreaded curse of playing ‘B Team’ football struck Saiz head-on during his career, with six of his seven former employers providing him with only second-level football.

The 26-year-old joined Huesca back in August 2015 on a season long loan before turning his temporary move permanent last summer, making over 60 appearances over two seasons and scoring 15 goals.

Spanish giants Eibar are also competing for the Spaniard’s signature, but the lure of playing football in England and for a historic club such as Leeds United has triggered a move suspected to be worth around the £3million mark.
