Who is Leeds United’s new signing Madger Gomes?

Leeds United have signed young Spaniard Madger Gomes from Liverpool, according to Leeds United’s official website. But who exactly is he?

Madger Antoni Gomes Aju or better known just as Madger Gomes was born on the 1st February 1997 in Alicante, Spain. He can play on either wing but his preferred position is central midfield. The Spaniard started his youth career at Villarreal but was quickly snapped up by Liverpool back in September 2014. He joined as an Under 18 but in less than 10 months he’s earned himself a move up to the Liverpool Under 23’s squad.

Madger Gomes did manage to break into the Villarreal B team once in 2013. Although he only got one minute on the pitch at the end of the match. While at Liverpool the Spaniard made a total of 20 appearances for the Under 23’s scoring just one goal and failing to get any assists. This may be a real worry for Leeds fans given all those games were a reserve level.

Gomes has played for Spain at International level. He’s made six appearances for the Spanish under 17’s, scoring one goal. He scored that goal in the Under 17’s European qualifiers against Russia. The young talent has also played for the Spanish under 18’s on three occasions.

Madger Gomes has only ever played at youth and reserve level. So many football fans will be very interested to see if the exciting young prospect can make that big step up to professional level. Especially given his competitive professional debut will be in one of the worlds most competitive league. Which is, of course, the EFL Championship.
