High-profile names rules himself out of becoming next Sunderland manager

Jurgen Klinsmann has posted on his Facebook account that he will not become the next manager of Sunderland. Speculation had begun to grow in recent days that if a German consortium bought the club, then they would consider hiring the former Tottenham Hotspur striker.

Ellis Short is in discussions over the sale of the club to a German investment group. An American consortium is also said to be on standby too. The Sky Bet Championship club still don’t have a manager in place at a time where many of their rivals are beginning to resume pre-season training. Sunderland won’t have Klinsmann in their dugout any time soon.

The brief note on his account came along with a video, where he had been out watching a music concert. However, the caption alongside this revealed that there is ‘no truth’ in the rumours of him becoming the next Sunderland manager.

The former Germany and USA national team boss has been out of work for a few months now, but doesn’t seem too desperate to get back into the game. He has only managed just less than one season at club level in management, during time at Bayern Munich where he was sacked. Union Berlin boss Jens Keller, Preston North End’s Simon Grayson and ex-Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson are other names to be frequently linked to this job. It remains to be seen if any of these will be appointed, but Sunderland certainly do need to be pretty rapid with this appointment. The club have said that takeover talk is delaying their prospects of appointing a permanent successor to David Moyes.
