FACTFILE: Everything you need to know about Leeds United target Samu Saiz ahead of his medical

It was reported on Monday that 26-year-old striker Samu Saiz is set for a medical with Championship giants Leeds United ahead of a £3 million transfer, but who exactly is the Spaniard?

The Spanish striker made a name for himself last season with Spanish second-tier side Huesca, for whom he scored 12 goals, helping the club to a promotion play-off, however Saiz tasted defeat and the defeat effectively sealed the end of his stay with the club.

Leeds will be the 7th club the 26-year-old has turned out for, although the majority of his career has been played out amongst a host of La Liga ‘B sides’.

A product of Real Madrid’s academy, it was clear early on that Saiz would never make the grade at the Bernabeu, and after spending 2 seasons with the C team as well as the club’s B team, he opted to make a move.

His loan to Sevilla B in 2010 did little to help his career prospects though and after just 15 appearances, he made a permanent switch to Melilla in 2011.

Saiz spent just one season with the club, and scored only once in 16 starts, before moving to Getafe in 2012. The Spaniard made one appearance for the senior side, but impressed for the club’s B team once again, notching 11 goals in 44 games.

The B team curse struck again though when a move to Atletico Madrid in 2014 led to another spell with the second team. After another successful season with a B team, it was clear that Saiz needed to get away from the youth sides and join a lower-league side to rebuild his career.

He opted to join Huesca, first on loan and then permanently last summer, making over 60 appearances over two season and scoring 15 goals.

Spanish giants Eibar were in the running to sign the 26-year-old attacker, but the draw of playing at Elland Road and moving away from Spain for the first time proved enough to tempt Saiz to pick Leeds in a move worth £3 million.
