Exeter City have signed Dean Moxey from Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer as confirmed by the club website.
The 31-year-old defender had been at Bolton since he signed for them from Crystal Palace in 2014, but even with their relegation to Sky Bet League One opening things up, he struggled to hold onto a place in the first team place last season. He would end up making 22 appearances for the Lancashire club and it wasn’t a huge surprise when he was released at the end of his contract, though it will have hurt Moxey not to follow his Bolton team mates back to the Championship with them.
But now Moxey will make a triumphant return to Exeter after signing a deal with them He started his career with the Grecians and made his debut for them all the way back in 2003, making just under 200 appearances for them before moving on to Derby County in 2009.
And he is delighted to return to Exeter, saying after signing: “It is nice to have the kit back on and I have got my number back,”
“It is strange, having not been here for eight years,”
“It (the training ground) has improved a fair bit since I was last here, with the 3G pitch down the bottom.
“The first team training pitch looks fantastic now as well – it was just mud when I was here before – and with this Stanno thing just inside the door here it is good to be back.”
“I had a few interested clubs, but when Exeter came in it was always something that I was going to want to do and luckily we got it over the line,”
“I have always thought about coming back here and I am just glad that I am able to do it now rather than at 36 or 37.”
“I am here to win. I want to get promoted. I don’t want to be in League Two to be honest, so I want to get promoted with Exeter and keep doing what we were doing when I left this place before.”
