Villa, Aston Villa reject bid for wanted left-back

Aston Villa reject bid for wanted left-back

Championship side Aston Villa have reportedly rejected a bid believed to be in the region of £5.3million for left-back Jordan Amavi, as reported by Spanish publication Marca this morning.

The left-back has been put on the transfer list at Villa Park after being considered surplus to requirements by gaffer Steve Bruce and it is Spanish club Sevilla who have now joined the host of clubs already chasing Amavi.

Just six months after Tony Xia claimed to have rejected a £25million bid the club seems prepared to cut their losses with the likes of Sampdoria, Marseille and former club Nice also on the list of clubs competing for Amavi’s signature.

It was the Spanish newspaper Marca which initially reported Sevilla’s interest in the defender. The newspaper claims that Sevilla are keen to capture the French defender’s services this summer ahead of the new season and Champions League football. While Villa reportedly rejected the Spanish side’s bid of £5.3million, it is believed that they will be prepared to do business for a fee in the region of £9million (the same amount they paid for Amavi two years ago).

It has been an up and down time for Amavi at Villa so far and he has already reportedly attracted interest from Premier League giants Liverpool in the past. The defender has made 30 appearances for Villa since joining them from Nice back in 2015. Amavi has also represented his country France at U18, U20 and U21 level but is yet to represent the senior side.

With interest rife, if someone is willing to meet Villa’s asking price then a move away from Villa Park could be just over the horizon for Amavi.
