Port Vale snap up Sheffield United defender

Port Vale have signed Graham Kelly from Sheffield United on a free transfer as confirmed by the club website.

The 19-year-old defender came through the Sheffield United academy, an institution that is well respected and has produced many great footballers over the last few years. However while Kelly was able to get a few first team appearances for the Blades, he wasn’t able to do enough to prove to the club’s management that he was a star of the future for them. He was released at the end of last season but luckily he has been able to find a new club fairly quickly.

He has been able to sign a one-year deal with Port Vale, with the option of another year on top. He comes to Vale Park with good pedigree having been capped at several levels of the youth game by England. He was also able to get more senior experience when he was sent on loan to Northern Premier League club Stalybridge Celtic last season. Now he will be looking to prove to the coaches at the Valiants that he is ready for first team football in the EFL.

After signing for Port Vale, Kelly said: “I’m delighted to finally get everything sorted I just can’t wait to get started now and meet all the lads.”

“I think Vale is the perfect place for me and when I heard there was interest I straight away wanted to come here. I worked with Chris Morgan at Sheffield United to and i know what he wants and having spoke to the Gaffer I know what’s wanted from me.”
