Wolves sign young defender from 2. Bundesliga

Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed their third defender in the summer transfer window and have announced Phil Ofosu-Ayeh.

Who is he?

The German-born defender has been playing in 2. Bundesliga since the start of his football career. His last spell was at Eintracht Braunschweig where he had scored and assisted one goal, under 16 appearances. His campaign this season had to be cut short after a series of injuries he picked up. In August 2016, he was ruled out due to an Achilles tendon problem. In March, he suffered from a muscle fibre injury which put him out of the squad for two games and in April, Ofosu-Ayeh picked up a knee injury which puts him out until the end of June.

The 23-year-old is also Ghanaian and has played for Ghana’s national team. His brother, Eugene Ofosu-Ayeh plays at SC Hassel.

What position does he play?

Ofosu-Ayeh is a defender. His primary position is as a right-back he is versatile as he has played in right-midfield and as a centre-back.

What has everyone said?

Wolves’ Sporting Director, Kevin Thelwell has said on the club website about the defender: “He’s a player that we’ve watched for some time and we think that he’ll bring with him a lot of experience and a lot of quality in the right back position.”

“I’ve got no worries that he will be able to come in here and hit the ground running”

An excited German defender had to say, “For me it was always a dream to play in England.”

“I’m very excited about everything – the club, the fans and my team mates so I’m ready for my journey here.”
